Remove/install

 Warning

Risk of injury to skin and eyes suffering scalding from contact with hot coolantspray. Risk of poisoning from swallowing coolant.

Do not open cooling system unless coolant temperature is below 90 °C. Open cap slowly and release the pressure. Do not pour coolant into beverage containers.
Wear protective gloves, protective clothing and safety glasses.

Detension the alternator poly-V-belt and remove it from the tensioner pulley for the poly-V-belt for the alternator clamping device.

 Installation: Check the condition of the poly-V-belt for the alternator and replace if necessary.

Remove coolant thermostat (11)

Remove the coolant hose (4) from the oil filter housing (1).

 Collect coolant which flows out.

Unscrew the oil filter cover (6) with oil filter element (8).

 During removal, the engine oil from the oil filter housing (1) runs back into the oil pan.

Disconnect the electrical engine wiring harness (3) on the oil pressure sensor (B12), oil temperature sensor (B11) and coolant temperature sensor (B65).

Unclip the cable tie for the electrical engine wiring harness (3) on the oil filter housing (1).

Remove the electrical engine wiring harness (3) with holder from the oil filter housing (1).

Remove the holder (2.1) from the oil filter housing (1).

Remove the holder (5) for the fuel lines (13) from the oil filter housing.

Remove the holder (5) for the fuel lines (13) from the cylinder crankcase.

Remove the fuel lines (13) on the bottom of the oil filter housing (1).

 Do not disconnect fuel lines (13).

Remove the fuel filter (12) from the oil filter housing (1).

 Do not disconnect fuel lines (13).

Pull out oil filter cover (6) with oil filter element (8)

 Installation: Replace sealing ring (7). Check oil filter element (8) for damage and contamination; replace oil filter element (8) if necessary.

Unscrew the screws on the oil filter housing (1).

 First unscrew the two screws (arrows) and, at these points, screw in the two fabricated assembly pins. Then, remove remaining screws.

Remove oil filter housing (1) from cylinder crankcase

 Remove the oil filter housing (1) by lifting it over the two screwed-in assembly pins. Catch escaping coolant and engine oil.

Remove seal (9)

 Installation: Clean sealing surfaces. Install new seal (9) over both of the screwed in assembly pins.

Check the oil-water heat exchanger for external damage.

If damage is present:



Replace the oil-water heat exchanger.

Risk of accident from vehicle starting off by itself when engine running. Risk of injury (bruises and burns) resulting from working on the engine while it is being started or when it is running.

Secure vehicle to prevent it from starting off by itself. Wear closed and snug-fitting work clothes. Do not touch hot or rotating parts.

Start engine and allow to run in idle for approx.   10s until the oil pressure has built up and then run the engine at varying rotational speeds

Turn off engine and check area of oil filter housing (1) for leaktightness

 Visual inspection.

Check the engine oil level using an oil dipstick or on the display and top up if necessary.

Notes on engine oil

Observe engine oil grade set in maintenance system or Specifications for Operating Fluids.
