4) Information on replacing the power-steering pump or steering if there are shavings in the oil circuit added.

1) Noise complaints from the area of the hydraulic steering:

Many noise complaints from the steering, particularly during the colder seasons, are caused by the oil level in the hydraulic fluid reservoir of the power-steering pump being too low without the system having a leakage.

Depending on the hydraulic fluid reservoir, small shortages are sufficient to cause the power-steering pump to take in air or foaming oil, which then produces noises.

As a result, if there are noise complaints with the engine running, such as hissing, gushing or humming from the vicinity of the pump, first check the oil level in the hydraulic fluid reservoir.

If the fill level is only slightly lower i.e. just under the relevant specified marking, correct this before performing any other work on the steering and reassess the vehicle.

To prevent this type of effect, we recommend always filling the oil level in the hydraulic fluid reservoir of the power-steering pump to "Maximum" for the corresponding temperature, particularly during winter inspections or other relevant vehicle checks.

2) Information on replacing the power-steering pump in the event of leaks at the steering:

Contrary to popular belief, the power-steering pump does not have to be replaced if there are leaks at the hydraulic steering if a short mileage has been covered with the vehicle without power steering fluid in the hydraulic fluid reservoir.

Driving without power steering fluid for up to 50 km is inconsequential and does not damage the power-steering pump.

Without fluid, it is not placed under any stress (pressure buildup) compared to normal operation.

The residual fluid in the pump is sufficient to provide an adequate lubricating film.

For protection, perform a function and noise test on the steering including power-steering pump after repairing the steering.

3) General information on warranty return parts:

Sometimes there is no, or often only a very general fitter's description enclosed with the damaged parts that are returned.

However, we are dependent on a detailed description of the damage profile to be able to specifically investigate the damaged part and initiate remedial measures if necessary.

As a result, the following information must be provided on the parts return slip for all damaged parts that are returned (the parts return slip must be securely attached to the component part):

1 . Description of the customer complaint in keywords.

2 . Information on the boundary conditions under which the complaint appeared (when, where, which operating conditions, speed, engine speed, temperature, steering movement, etc.).

3 . Which component part has been detected as the cause (technician's findings)?

4 . In the event of leakages, the location of the leakage must be marked precisely.

4) Information on replacing the power-steering pump or steering if there are shavings in the oil circuit:

If the steering is contaminated with metal particles, all component parts that conduct oil must be replaced.

Flushing out the system does not ensure that all particles are removed.

The metal particles can get stuck at the transitions of the lines and in the pulsation damper as well as in the cooler.

Consequential damage as a result of remaining shavings that get into the system again during the operating time cannot be ruled out.

If the regulations specified here are not complied with, we reserve the right to refuse the submitted warranty or goodwill claim.
