1 | Drain oil from retarder and determine oil quantity | ||

2 | Remove retarder | ||
3 | Screw handle into retarder and place retarder on a work surface. | | |
4 | Remove coolant temperature sensor | Model 950, 952, 953, 954 | |

5 | Detach heat exchanger from oil reservoir (1) | ||
6 | Detach retarder proportioning valve | ||
7 | Remove bracket (9) | ||
8 | Detach oil reservoir (1) | ||
9 | Remove O-rings (5 and 6) | ||
10 | Remove exhaust valve (3) and O-ring (6) from retarder housing (4) | ||
| Install | ||
11 | Install new O-ring (6) and exhaust valve (3) in retarder housing (4) | Check exhaust valve (3) for ease of movement, ensure that it is not tilted and replace if necessary. | |
Observe installation position of exhaust valve and turn into position if necessary. | |||
12 | Insert O-rings (2 and 5) into the grooves | Replace O-rings and coat with Vaselinebefore installing. | |
13 | Mount oil reservoir (1) on the retarder housing (4) and screw in new stretch bolts (7 and 8) lightly by hand | It must still be possible to move the oil reservoir so that the heat exchanger can be mounted afterwards. | |
14 | Install heat exchanger on the oil reservoir (1) | ||
15 | Tighten the oil reservoir (1) with stretch bolt (7 and 8) | Replace stretch bolt (7). | |

17 | Install retarder proportioning valve on oil reservoir (1) | ||
18 | Detach handle from retarder | ||
19 | Install retarder | ||
