| Remove | ||
1 | Remove the pivot pin (1) between slack adjuster and brake chamber by removing the split pin using a plier
2 | Loosen the brake chamber lower mounting nut and remove the nut (2) fastening the anchoring bracket (3) from automatic slack adjuster | By using 24 mm ring spanner.
3 | Rotate the adjusting hexagonal nut (4) counter-clockwise till the automatic slack adjuster tail comes out of fork | Avoid using pneumatic gun to loosen the adjusting hexagonal nut.
4 | Remove circlip (5) from S-cam shaft by using a circlip
5 | Remove automatic slack adjuster (6) from the S-cam shaft
| Install | ||
6 | Ensure the presence of shim (7) on the S- cam shaft
7 | Install the automatic slack adjuster (6) with the arrow indicated in the direction of brake actuation
8 | Align the control arm (8) of the automatic slack adjuster in the anchor bracket (3) slot | Service procedure of LHS automatic slack adjuster is same as RHS automatic slack adjuster. Except during the installation of LHS automatic slack adjuster on the S-cam shaft.
Add shims (7) to maintain axial play of 0.3 to 0.8 mm and finally insert circlip (5).
9 | Rotate the adjusting hexagonal nut (4) clockwise till the automatic slack adjuster tail hole match fork pin center hole | Avoid using pneumatic gun to tighten the adjusting hexagonal nut.
Visually check matching of both the slack adjuster hole and fork pin hole.
Put the pivot pin without pulling pushrod fork and put the split pin on the pivot pin hole, pin must enter freely.
10 | Tighten the brake chamber lower mounting nut (2) | Brake chamber lower mounting nut
11 | Tighten the hexagonal nut (4) fastening anchor bracket with automatic slack adjuster control arm | Fastening anchor bracket with ASA control arm
12 | Rotate the adjusting hexagonal nut (4) clockwise until the lining contacts the drum | Avoid using pneumatic gun to tighten the adjusting hexagonal nut.
13 | To set the clearance, back-off the adjuster by turning the adjusting hexagonal nut (4) 180° counter-clockwise

18 | Remove automatic slack adjuster (6) from the S-cam shaft
19 | Remove the shim (7) from S-cam
| Install | ||
20 | Install the shim (7) on the S- cam shaft
21 | Install the automatic slack adjuster (6) with the arrow indicated in the direction of brake actuation | On RH, the arrow faces the axle and hence not seen from outside.
22 | Insert stud into the anchor bracket (3) slot and hand tight the actuator bracket top mounting nut
23 | Rotate the adjusting hexagonal nut (4) clockwise till the ASA tail hole match fork pin’s center hole | Avoid using pneumatic gun to tighten the adjusting hexagonal nut.
Visually check the matching of both holes as shown in the illustration.
24 | Install the pivot pin (1) without pulling pushrod fork and put the split pin on the pivot pin hole
25 | Add shim (7) to maintain axial play not to exceed 0.3 to 0.8 mm and finally install the circlip (5)
26 | Tighten the actuator mounting nuts (9) | By using 24 mm hexagonal socket and torque wrench.

Front and Rear Auto Slack Adjuster Clearance Setting Procedure
28 | Open the wear indication window grommets (10) and insert 0.7 mm feeler gauge in between the liner and drum
29 | Rotate the adjusting hexagonal nut (4) clockwise until feeler gauge cannot be moved
30 | Rotate the adjusting hexagonal nut (4) anti clockwise until the feeler gauge can just be moved | While retracting the ASA, click sound is observed due to clutch mechanism. Avoid considering this as ASA failure.
Avoid using pneumatic gun to loosen the adjusting hexagonal nut.
31 | Ensure the 0.7 mm feeler gauge can be moved in both the top and bottom shoes
32 | Refit the wear indicator window grommets | Operate the brake pedal for 15 times to complete the automatic adjustment and to stabilize the optimum lining clearance. Make sure that minimum of 8.1 bar pressure in system. On release of every application, allow sufficient time for brake to retract completely. |
