Since the introduction of models 447, 470 and 907/910 the navigation units with hard-drive navigation are shipped with copy protection (see overview table). This means that installation of updated map data in addition to the DVD, also requires a six-digit alphanumeric activation code.
Navigation DVDs can be procured through the same channels as are currently used. The required vehicle-specific activation code can be requested from the Vehicle Documentation (VeDoc) system in the "Navigation" tab.
To do so, one selects the required map version at "Possible map versions" and then clicks on "Request activation code". When requesting a new activation code (new license) in VeDoc, an invoicing process is automatically initiated, which is used to bill the new license. A renewed request for a previously generated activation code (replacement) is free of charge.
The activation code must be marked onto the customer DVD or its case.
Activation codes for vehicles authorized to receive free of charge map updates (see also SI82.85-S-0019A) can be requested in VeDoc free of charge within the fixed period of three years.
Installation of updated map data and entry of the activation code are described in detail in the COMAND supplementary instructions and in AP82.85-S-8252E.
The "Navigation" tab is available in the VeDoc system for handling activation code requests. The VeDoc system "Navigation" tab, is only visible and active when a user is expressly authorized and the chosen vehicle is equipped with a copy-protected COMAND. An activation code cannot be defined for vehicles that have been registered as stolen or locked.
For hard disk navigation units without copy protection, a valid license (DVD) is required for each individual update procedure.
Independent garages that procure the navigation DVDs through authorized workshops are to be notified of the necessity for an activation code.
Important: Please notify your sales and warehouse personnel about this to ensure that customers are made aware of this when purchasing a current navigation DVD.
