| Measuring | ||
| Excessive lateral runout at the rim or tire corresponds to a dynamic imbalance which distorts the toe-in and camber values set. Radial runout at the tire and rim corresponds to a static imbalance which causes impact shock forces on the tires, wheel bearings and steering. | ||
1 | Raise vehicle at the front
2 | Adjust measuring wheel to height of center of axle | Dial gauge P 22
3 | Attach measuring wheel in the center of the contact patch, turn wheel on the vehicle by hand and measure radial runout | 1 graduation = 1 mm. Compensate for excessive radial runout of the tire by turning on the rim. If this is not successful, check wheel centering or change tire or wheel.
4 | Attach measuring wheel to the side of the rim flange, turn the wheel by hand and measure lateral runout | There are faults in the rim and wheel hub if there is excessive lateral runout.
15-16 inch tire | |||
17.5 inch tire | |||
5 | Attach measuring wheel to the tire flank, turn wheel by hand and measure lateral runout | Measure on the periphery at a point without marking. |
