Service Information: Telephone control unit causes various fault symptoms

 Supplementary notes on complaint:

1. After an engine start in cold surroundings (< 0 °C) afterwards sound interruptions in radio, CD, CC, DVD or telephone mode can be heard. These interruptions last

approx. 2-4 seconds and occur approx. 30-50 s after engine start.

2. After inserting a portable CTEL (above all with Nokia 6310i) with very many SMS in the telephone memory (100 and more) likewise after approx. 30 seconds a sound interruption (radio, CD, CC, DVD, telephone) can be heard.

3. No provider and/or field strength display in the head unit display.

4. A telephone call set up is not possible.

5. A hung-up portable CTEL is not recognized, message: "Please hang up telephone" appears.

6. Message "Please enter PIN" appears, although the portable CTEL is already inserted and registered in the portable CTEL bracket.

7. The portable CTEL is not switched on after starting the system (audio 20, audio 50 APS ) with the ignition key or "ON" button. The user must switch on the portable CTEL manually by pressing the "Tel"-button for > 5 s duration.

8. The MOST ring is restarted by resetting the telephone control unit, i. e. the system cannot recover the "LOAD" MODE.

Example: The user listens to the radio, after this the system interrupts briefly and starts again in "CD" MODE.

9. After starting the vehicle (particularly when cold) a loud rustling/crackling can be heard in the speakers, which either disappears of its own accord after a few seconds or is only eliminated after switching the ignition off and on.

 Fault symptoms caused by the microphone control unit:

1. One audio channel is missing at times.

2. After the call set up the customer in the vehicle cannot be heard by the person on the other end of the line (no uplink).

 Cause: Software fault

The telephone control units A 211 820 99 26, A 211 820 13 85 and A 211 820 49 85 with all Q status can cause these fault symptoms.

 Remedy: These faults are eliminated when the telephone control unit A 211 820 58 85 and microphone control unit

A 211 820 31 85 SW28/02 and HW51/01 are used.

Parts availability is very restricted for a short time

IMPORTANT: After installing the telephone control unit

A 211 820 58 85 it is also absolutely essential that the microphone control unit A 211 820 31 85 with at least SW28/02 and HW51/01 is installed.

 As of vehicle identification number 211026 1A 232244 OK.

Important: It is essential to check the software release of the customer portable CTEL after installing the new control unit

 The software release of the portable CTEL can be read out via the button panel with *#0000#.

If software 4.07 is installed on the Nokia 6310i, the portable CTEL should be updated. This can only be carried out in a Nokia shop. The update takes place free of charge if problems are cited.

Possible reasons:

The software release 4.07 was the first software release of the Nokia 6310i and accordingly still has faults. If more than 60 SMS are stored in the unit, the portable CTEL reacts very sluggishly to button inputs. If it is then inserted in the vehicle, the conversation breaks off after approx. 20 s (portable CTEL reset).

Likewise with this software release button lockout is automatically activated again after the first conversation.

Technical workshop care must not be called up in this case.
