Instruction of customer in accordance with certification.

 The subsequent deactivation of the restraint system component at the customer's request is only permissible on medical grounds, to be verified by the customer with the appropriate evidence.

 The vehicle owner is obliged to have the deactivation recorded on the motor vehicle registration certificate and inform the insurance company.

 Before deactivating the front passenger airbag and the front passenger seat belt tensioner, it is essential to ensure that the certificate is signed by the customer.

Request evidence from the customer.

 To prove medical grounds making the deactivation of a restraint system component imperative, the presentation of a certification to this effect must be requested and the existence of this certificate must be documented accordingly (copy of certificate).

 The identity of the customer and authorization on the basis of the submission of an identity card and the vehicle title of ownership must be checked and documented (copy).

Fill out the certificate.



Customer declaration for deactivation of front passenger airbag and front passenger emergency tensioning retractor, certificate

 Completed and signed letter of declaration (certificate) in triplicate for archiving:
Vehicle owner,
Workshop,
Vehicle owner's manual.

 Cut off the upper section of the copy of the certificate and stick it in the operator's manual (at the start of the chapter on SAFETY).

Request special equipment code for deactivating restraint system components.



 Request special equipment code via retrofit process: O30 (Airbags and emergency tensioning retractors at passenger side deactivated).

Request password for deactivating restraint system components.

 To do this, an XENTRY Support & Feedback ticket (XSF ticket) must be created via the application list of the After-Sales Portal in the "XENTRY Support & Feedback" system.
The customer's signed declaration must be attached to the XSF Ticket.

 To do so, select the following menu items in event category "Diagnosis software":
Fault type: DAS/Xentry Diagnostics
Sub fault type 1: Password query
Vehicle model: Vito/V-Class/Metris
Control unit: N2/18 (Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) control unit).



Remove

Remove ignition key from ignition lock.

Disconnect ground line of on-board electrical system battery (G1).



Remove front passenger airbag with cover (1).



 Strap down electrical connectors of front passenger airbag.

 The removed front passenger airbag with cover (1) is not used any longer and must be disposed of properly.

Remove upper control panel (UCP) control unit (N72/1).



 Removed upper control panel (UCP [OBF]) control unit (N72/1) is no longer used.

Remove seat belt retractor with seat belt from front passenger side B-pillar.



 Strap down electrical connectors of front passenger emergency tensioning retractor squib (R12/2) .

 Removed belt retractor with seat belt is no longer used and must be disposed of properly.



Clean

Remove adhesive label (2) from instrument panel.

 There must be no evidence (lamps, airbag stickers, lettering) of the deactivated or removed front passenger airbag visible in the vehicle.
The adhesive label (2) of the deactivated or removed front passenger airbag must not be covered up, but must be irreversibly removed.

Remove adhesive labels (3) from upper side and underside of sun visor (4).

 There must be no evidence (lamps, airbag stickers, lettering) of the deactivated or removed front passenger airbag visible in the vehicle.
The adhesive labels (3) of the deactivated or removed front passenger airbag must not be covered up, but must be irreversibly removed.

Remove any adhesive residue from the bonding surfaces.

 Use commercially available cleaning alcohol.



Install

Install new seat belt retractor with seat belt at front passenger side B-pillar.



 Use appropriate variant of belt retractor for model 447 with code SW3 (Omission of front passenger airbag) with high belt force limiter.

Install new upper control panel (UCP) control unit (N72/1).

Only if the upper control panel (UCP [OBF]) control unit (N72/1) has been removed.



 Use appropriate variant of upper control panel (UCP [OBF]) control unit (N72/1) for model 447 without code SK5 (Automatic front passenger airbag shutoff).

Install new cover (1).

 Use appropriate variant of cover (1) for model 447 with code SW3 (Omission of front passenger airbag).

 Ensure that the cover (1) is correctly seated on the instrument panel.

Attach ground line of on-board electrical system battery (G1).



Document equipment that is subsequently deactivated in Vehicle Documentation (VeDoc).

 This must be performed by an authorized user after identification of vehicle identification number (FIN).
Designation of affected equipment: O30 (Passenger-side airbags and emergency tensioning retractor disabled).

Insert ignition key into ignition lock.

Perform SCN coding on Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) control unit (N2/18).



 Use XENTRY Diagnosis Software version 07/2016 with all relevant and up-to-date add-ons or a higher XENTRY Diagnosis Software version. The operation steps must be performed exactly as per XENTRY Diagnosis Software.

SCN coding after adaptation of SA code

 The SCN coding process is password-protected. Requested password to disable restraint system components must be entered.

Attach information label (5).

 When attaching the information sign (5), it must be positioned on the windshield as shown so that it is visible.



Check

Check that the airbag indicator lamps are displaying correctly.

 Use the descriptions for the indicator lamps given in the operator's manual for the vehicle.
