| Remove/install | ||
Danger! | Risk of injury to skin and eyes caused by handling hot or glowing objects. | Wear safety gloves, protective clothing and safety glasses, if necessary.
Danger! | Risk of death caused by vehicle slipping or toppling off of the lifting platform. | Align vehicle between columns of vehicle lift and position four support plates at vehicle lift support points specified by vehicle manufacturer.
1 | Raise vehicle | ||
2 | Detach rear part of the lower engine compartment paneling | Installation: Install engine compartment paneling only after engine test run.
Remove O2 sensor downstream of CAT
3 | Unclip and disconnect connector for O2 sensor downstream of CAT (G3/1x1) at bracket | Unclip electrical line from brackets (1).
4 | Detach O2 sensor downstream of CAT (G3/1) from exhaust manifold with catalytic converter (4) | Installation: Coat thread with heat-resistant lubricant.

Paste | |||
Remove O2 sensor upstream of CAT
5 | Unclip connector for O2 sensor upstream of CAT (G3/2x1) from bracket, and disconnect | Unclip electrical line from brackets (2).
6 | Detach O2 sensor upstream of CAT (G3/2) from exhaust manifold with catalytic converter (4) | The O2 sensor upstream of CAT (G3/2) is a wideband O2 sensor and therefore is extremely sensitive to the effect of applied forces. Pay attention to the following points, to prevent damage to the O2 sensor upstream of CAT (G3/2): Do not use pliers to remove O2 sensor upstream of CAT (G3/2), but use an open end wrench on the hexagon. When cleaning the thread, do not use any force (e. g. with pliers or vise) on the stem of the O2 sensor upstream of CAT (G3/2).
If replacing the O2 sensor upstream of CAT (G3/2), note that balance resistor (3) of the new O2 sensor upstream of CAT (G3/2) is already attached and should not be replaced (resistance depends on sensor).
Installation: Coat thread with heat-resistant lubricant.
| |||
Paste | |||
7 | Install in the reverse order
8 | Connect STAR DIAGNOSIS | If replacing the O2 sensor upstream of CAT (G3/2).
9 | Carry out initial initialization of the ME control unit | If replacing the O2 sensor upstream of CAT (G3/2).
After replacing the O2 sensor upstream of CAT (G3/2), a default initialization must be carried out in the ME-SFI control unit using Star Diagnosis menu item "control unit adaptations", as the mixture adaptation in the ME-SFI control unit has to be reset.
Danger! | Risk of accident caused by vehicle starting off by itself when engine is running. Risk of injury caused by contusions and burns during starting procedure or when working near the engine as it is running | Secure vehicle to prevent it from moving by itself.
10 | Test run engine and check exhaust system for leaks |
