Automatic transmission - oil and filter change

Risk of accident caused by vehicle starting off by itself when engine is running. Risk of injury caused by contusions and burns during starting procedure or when working near the engine as it is running

Secure vehicle to prevent it from moving by itself.
Wear closed and snug-fitting work clothes.
Do not touch hot or rotating parts.

Turn the converter

 Unitl the oil drain screw of converter (3) is visible in the opening of the bell housing.

 Clean the area around the oil drain screw of converter (3) and the area around the oil drain screw of the oil pan (4).

Remove oil drain screw of converter (3) and oil drain screw of oil pan (4)

 Drain the oil completely.

 Install new sealing rings.

Drain oil

 Drain oil when warm.

Screw in oil drain screw of converter (3) and oil drain screw of oil pan (4)



Take off oil pan

Clean oil pan carefully

 Always ensure the utmost cleanliness when working on the automatic transmission.

Replace oil filter (5)

 To do this, remove bolts (6)



Install oil pan

Check leakage, replace according to condition.

 First screw in screws manually and then tighten crosswise uniformly from center.



Open latch on oil dipstick (7)

 Pull oil dipstick (7) out of filler pipe.

 Wipe off oil dipstick (7) with a lint-free rag (preferably leather).

Insert funnel into the opening of the filler pipe



Pour in oil

 Initially pour in approx. 4 l of oil.

Start engine

Apply service brake

 Shift through all selector lever positions.

Leave selector lever engaged at each position for a few seconds. Afterwards shift transmission into position "P" again.

Refill remaining oil

It is essential to drain excess transmission oil or extract it using a handpump. When suctioning off attention should be paid to extreme cleanliness of the hose and pump, otherwise malfunctions may occur.

 Refill oil slowly at engine idle speed, until the specified oil level is displayed on the oil dipstick (7).

 When the automatic transmission fluid is cold the oil level must be in the measuring range (A) at 30 °C. When the transmission oil is at operating temperature, the oil level must be in the measuring range (B) at 80 °C.



Insert oil dipstick (7)

 Lock oil dipstick (7).

Check transmission for leaks

 Check the oil drain screw of converter (3), oil drain screw of oil pan (4) and oil pan for leaktightness.
