The starter control actuates the start enable of the starter (M1) and interrupts the circuit of the starter (starter switch off) when engine starter speed is reached.

The solenoid switch of the starter is not actuated directly through the starter switch (S2)K6, but through the starter relay, by the ECM [MSM] control unit (N3/5).

The voltage supply of the starter relay coil is provided through "terminal 87". The starter relay is actuated on the ground side by the

ECM control unit.

Actuation of the starter (start enable) takes place only when the engaged drive position "P" or "N" is detected via the Front Transmission Control control unit (Y3/7n2) or when the neutral position is detected via the Automatic Clutch control unit (N15/4).

On vehicles fitted with an electronic immobilizer, the engine control monolith control unit also requires the "Start Enable" signal from the DAS control unit (N73/1).

When the ignition/start switch is operated in the start position, the ME control unit activates an automatic start control.

Once the engine start speed of 400 to 700 rpm is reached, the ECM [MSM] control unit interrupts the negative actuation to the starter relay and thus the starting procedure

If the start procedure is initiated, switching off of "tml. 50" at the starter switch has no further effect on the start procedure.

The starter turns until the engine start speed is obtained or at +80 °C engine temperature for max. 5 seconds and when the engine is cold, for max. 10 seconds.
