We had informed you that Daimler AG was ordered to desist from offering, marketing, using and producing the AIRSCARF heating system in Mercedes-Benz vehicles in its original form in the Federal Republic of Germany, as well as from importing or possessing it for the named purposes. Daimler AG was therefore forbidden from exporting vehicles with an activated AIRSCARF heating system (code 403).
With immediate effect, the complete AIRSCARF heating system (code 403) can be offered and installed ex-factory worldwide again. This means the AIRSCARF preinstallation (code 499) is invalid and will not offered anymore either.
Therefore, the following applies with immediate effect:
AIRSCARF can be ordered by customers in the original form (code 403) again.
For all vehicles with status "according to plan" and AIRSCARF preinstallation (code 499), AIRSCARF is activated for the customer free of charge as part of the below-mentioned service measures (code 403).
Planned service measures for AIRSCARF activation
Vehicles with deactivated AIRSCARF (disconnected electrical connector) can be converted as part of a service measure.
Vehicles with ex-factory deactivated AIRSCARF (air duct/head restraint without heating element) may also be able to get converted presumably as of end of June 2016 as part of a service measure, depending on parts availability.
It must be ensured that a function test of the AIRSCARF system is performed in any case before delivery to the customer. If the function cannot be restored before delivery owing to parts unavailability, the service operations are obliged to arrange for the customer to be notified as soon as the preconditions for conversion are fulfilled. The vehicle can be delivered in any case.
