Function

Steering angle reduction is a function programmed in the electrohydraulic auxiliary steering (EHZ) control unit (A72). It affects the steering angle of the auxiliary steering axle depending on the vehicle speed and thus changes the turning circle and the steering line of the vehicle (L) accordingly.

In the lower vehicle speed range (1) up to approx. 25 km/h, the auxiliary steering axle is steered linearly, i.e. in constant proportion to the steering angle of the front axle.

The programmed steering angle reduction is effective in the medium speed range (2) of approx. 25 km/h to approx. 45 km/h: The higher the vehicle speed is, the smaller the steering angle of the auxiliary steering axle will be in relation to the steering angle of the front axle.

The programmed steering angle suppression is effective in the upper vehicle speed range (3) above approx. 45 km/h: Regardless of how far the front axle is steered, the auxiliary steering axle remains in the straight-ahead position and the steering cylinder is centered hydraulically.

As a result of the steering angle reduction, a small turning circle with resulting increase in maneuverability is achieved in the lower vehicle speed range. At higher speeds, the driving stability and smooth running of a conventional "three-axle vehicle" is achieved.
