The following steps are shown on the left side of the vehicle and must be accomplished analogously on the right side in the event of damage.
When MIG welding ( ) prepare welds by grinding down to bare metal with stainless steel brush. Tack weld weld seams at start and end. Weld seam gap should not be greater than 1 mm, if required, preweld.
Flow drill bolts installed on the vehicle are replaced by high-strength rivets.
1 | Install welding bath support, fender (1), lock striker, door, liftgate and rear lamp units, rear bumper and seals and fit. |
Install welding bath support between side roof paneling and fender (1) and align in center (area A). |
2 | Check and adjust gap dimensions. |
3 | Fix fender (1) in place. |
4 | Remove door, lock striker, liftgate, rear lamp unit, rear bumper and seal. |

5 | Drill Ø 6.7 mm rivet holes on fender (1) (areas D, E, H, I, J, L). |
If holes are present for flow drill bolts on the vehicle transfer them to new parts. When a new part is connected to another new part, adapt and drill them together. |
6 | Remove fender (1), deburr holes and remove drill chips. |

7 | Apply adhesive to crosshatched areas (areas D, E, F, G, H, I, J, K, L). |
Observe manufacturer's specifications for setting and processing time of adhesive. |
Observe pretreatment of bonding surfaces. |
8 | Install fender (1) and fix in place. |
Ensure that weld bath support is seated correctly (area A). |
9 | Rivet fender (1) with flow form rivets (areas F, G, K). |
Rivet flow form rivet (S08) with a clamping range of 1.30 mm to 2.50 mm (area F). |
Rivet flow form rivet (S1) with a clamping range of 2.30 mm to 3.50 mm (area G, K). |
10 | Rivet fender (1) with blind rivets (areas D, E, H, I, J, L). |
Use Ø 6.512.5 rivets. |

11 | Fender (1) (areas A, B, C). |
When welding area A, use welding bath support. |
MIG weld in intervals, allow to cool down in between, minimum heat distortion. |
12 | Restore surfaces in areas (A, B, C), grind and remove drill chips. |
