Remove/install

 Installation

Replace self-locking nuts and bolts

Set steering wheel and front wheel to straight-ahead position

 Withdraw ignition key and engage steering wheel lock.

Remove front wheels



Remove/install wheels, rotate if necessary

Detach both front engine mounts (22) from right front engine support (19) and from left front engine support (20)

Remove left front engine support (20)

Extract fluid out of the power steering pump's fluid reservoir

 Hand pump

Remove power steering pump on front axle carrier

 Do not detach hydraulic lines from power steering pump.

Remove steering coupling (13)

 Installation: 

Turn rack-and-pinion steering (1) to center position.

Raise engine using engine hoist

 Note lines and hoses (risk of pinching). Trapped hoses and lines may be damaged.

 Raise engine up to upper stop.

Push tie rod joints (7) off steering knuckles on both sides

 Do not damage rubber boots on tie rod joints (7). Dirt and water ingress may damage the tie rod joints.

 Installation: Clean taper on tie rod joints (7).



Unscrew nuts (5) and detach connecting rods (6)

 The link rods (6) with M10 thread must always be replaced every time they are disassembled.

Check link rods (6) with M12 thread, replace if necessary.

Counter ball head bolts on link rods (6) and ensure that the rubber boot is not twisted or damaged.



Unscrew bolt (18) and detach bracket for high-pressure line (16) from rack-and-pinion steering (1)

Detach high-pressure and low-pressure lines (16, 14) from rack-and-pinion steering (1)

 Seal off high-pressure and low-pressure lines (16, 14) using suitable plugs.

 Installation: Replace sealing rings (15, 17).



Unscrew bolts (2) and detach rack-and-pinion steering (1) from front axle carrier

 Check rubber mount and replace if necessary.



Fold up torsion bar (4) and turn left steering knuckle to the left.

Remove rack-and-pinion steering (1) to the left

 Do not damage the bellows when removing the rack-and-pinion steering (1). Dirt and water ingress may damage the rack-and-pinion steering.

Install in the reverse order

Fill power steering pump and bleed

Check and adjust front axle toe

Conduct a road test

Check and correct power steering fluid level



Remove/install wheels, rotate if necessary
