1 | Engine air intake duct downstream of the air filter | T1/1 | Cylinder 1 ignition coil
2 | Charge air pipe | T1/2 | Cylinder 2 ignition coil
3 | Electrical connector | T1/3 | Cylinder 3 ignition coil
4 | Bolts | T1/4 | Cylinder 4 ignition coil |
Danger | Risk of death when working on component parts and systems with U >= 30 V alternating voltage (AC) or U >= 60 V direct voltage (DC) | Do not touch damaged or defective live component parts and lines or non-insulated electrical connections and lines.
Warning | Risk of injury. Skin or eye injuries may result when handling hot or glowing objects. | Wear protective gloves, protective clothing and safety glasses, if necessary.
Caution | Risk of injury caused by scraping or cutting body parts on sharp vehicle parts | Always wear protective gloves when working on or near sharp and non-deburred vehicle parts.

| Remove/install | ||
1 | Switch off ignition and store transmitter key outside of transmitter range (min. 2 m).
2 | Remove upper engine cover.
| |||
Installation: Only install upper engine cover after the leak test.
3 | Remove engine air intake duct downstream of the air filter (1). | Only when removing of the ignition coil of cylinder 4 (T1/4).
4 | Remove charge air pipe (2) from the exhaust gas turbocharger to the charge air cooler. | Only when removing the ignition coils for cylinders 3 – 4 (T1/3 to T1/4).
5 | Release and disconnect electrical connectors (3).
6 | Unscrew screw/bolts (4). | Screw/bolt, ignition coil to cylinder head cover
7 | Remove ignition coils for cylinders 1 – 4 (T1/1 to T1/4) with the spark plug connectors. | Installation:
Spark plug connector grease
8 | Check ignition coils for cylinders 1 – 4 (T1/1 to T1/4) and the spark plug connectors for damage. | If problems occur,
| |||
Replace corresponding components.
9 | Install in the reverse order.
| Check | ||
10 | Read out and delete fault memory.
| |||
Warning | Risk of accident from vehicle starting off by itself when engine running. Risk of injury (bruises and burns) resulting from working on the engine while it is being started or when it is running. | Secure vehicle to prevent it from starting off by itself. Wear closed and snug-fitting work clothes. Do not touch hot or rotating parts.
11 | Conduct engine test run while checking for proper operation of the engine.
12 | Install upper engine cover.
