1 | Open fuel filler flap and tank cap | So that no vacuum in created the fuel tank when pumping out the fuel. | |
2 | Remove partition wall between wheel wells | Engine 113 only | |
3 | Remove engine cover | Engine 156: Take off front engine cover evenly to the top so as not to break off any tabs. | |
4 | Unscrew the cap (2) from the service valve (1) | ||
5 | Screw on pressure hose at service valve (1) and release fuel pressure | Use safety container for collecting the fuel. | |

6 | Open panel (3) of the spare tire well in the direction of arrow (A) | ||
7 | Pull out fuel pump relay (F4kO) | ||

8 | Bridge plug contact 3 (arrow B) and plug contact 5 (arrow C) of fuel pump relay (F4kO) and empty fuel tank through the service valve (1) | When emptying observe maximum filling capacity of fuel tank. | |
Use safety container for collecting the fuel. | |||
If fuel cannot be pumped due a faulty fuel pump: | |||
Pump off fuel on systems with faulty fuel pumps. | |||
9 | Install in the reverse order | Do not close fuel filler flap and tank cap yet. | |
Fill | |||
10 | Using the Suction Master, pump fuel from safety container through filler neck into fuel tank | Ground extraction pump to avoid electrostatic charging. | |
Observe manufacturer's operating instructions and notes. | |||
