3 Insert main shifter shaft (20) if necessary.
Ensure that shift unit is in correct position (arrows).
4 Sequentronic automated manual transmission (SEQ), code 424:
4.1 Secure SEQ gearshift lever (17) to main shifter shaft (20) using bolt (9), and secure to rear part of transmission housing using bolts (18).
Pay attention to the labeling "TOP" on the SEQ gearshift lever (17).

5 Oil cylinder roller bearing in drive shaft.
6 Insert rear part of transmission housing (6) with transmission shafts (7) into front part of transmission housing.
Raise the front of the countershaft slightly.
The input shaft, countershaft, main shifter shaft and guides of the shift unit must locate in the rear section of the transmission housing (6).
D26.40-1117-01
7 Position rear section of transmission housing (6) at holes with guide sleeves using two 60 mm long bolts (5) and screw on rear section of transmission housing (6) until
finger-tight.
D26.40-1118-01
8 Install bolt (4), screwing it in hand-tight.
9 Attach insertion tool (3) to drive shaft and screw nut (2) down to lowest position.
10 Insert wedges (1).
11 Turn nut (2) upward until wedges (1) touch.
D26.40-1119-01
12 Position retainer wrench (8) on nut.
13 Install countershaft with bolt and drive shaft using retainer wrench (8) alternately and uniformly until retainer wrench (8) also rotates when countershaft is drawn in.
Do not use electric screwdrivers, impact wrenches or pneumatic tools!
14 Tighten nut using retainer wrench (8).
15 Use retainer wrench (8) to loosen nut again and remove insertion tool.
D26.40-1102-01
16 Remove 60 mm long bolts (arrows) and secure rear section of transmission housing (6) using new bolts (5) .
17 Sequentronic automated manual transmission (SEQ), code 424:
17.1 Shift through gears
17.2 Detach SEQ gearshift lever (17).

18 Install radial shaft seal (11) using drift.
Make sure that the radial shaft sealing ring (11) is seated correctly in the rear section of the transmission housing (6).
19 Push on output flange (10).
Transmission versions for passengers cars have three-arm flanges.
20 Tighten new collar nut (9). When doing so, counterhold using socket screw wrench .
Special tool assignment:
Vans: Pin wrench (901 589 00 07 00)
Passenger cars: Pin wrench (126 589 01 07 00) and socket (126 589 02 09 00)
21 Secure new collar nut (9) using drift.
D26.50-1137-01
22 Tighten bolt (12) of countershaft .
Counterhold using retainer wrench (13).
D26.50-1138-01
23 Determine thickness of the circlip (15):
Insert test ring (thickness: 1.5 mm) and press downward all the way (toward output end).
Measure gap between test ring and upper edge of groove in input shaft using feeler gauge.
Calculate thickness of circlip (= (measured value +1.5 mm (test ring)).
Remove test ring.
24 Use pliers to insert a new circlip (15) with determined thickness
(steps of 0.05 mm).
Make sure that the circlip (15) is seated correctly on the input shaft.
25 Install radial shaft seal (16) using drift.
Make sure that the radial shaft sealing ring (16) is seated correctly in the transmission housing.
26 Fit a new sealing cover (14) on countershaft using drift.
Make sure that the sealing cover (14) is seated correctly in the transmission housing.
