We would like to inform you that, when installing the rack-and-pinion steering (2) on vehicles with code 1U5 (Rubber sprung steering gear), the following points must be noted:
Replace bolt and nuts of rack-and-pinion steering (2) each time they are released.
Before installation of the rack-and-pinion steering (2), perform a visual check of the rear elastomer bearing (1) and front elastomer bearing (3).
Damaged elastomer bearings must be replaced.
Position rack-and-pinion steering (2) vertically from above onto the integral carrier (4).
Do not then move the rack-and-pinion steering (2) to align it on the integral carrier (4).
There is a risk that the lower sealing lip of the rear elastomer bearing (1) could fold inwards and then be jammed if it is moved.
Check if the lower sealing lip of the rear elastomer bearing (1) is folded outwards over the entire diameter (see arrow).
To make installation of the rack-and-pinion steering (2) easier, is an installation aid (6) is planned.
In future, the installation aid (6) will be provided with the mounting kit for the rack-and-pinion steering (2) and be used as follows:
Slide installation aid (6) onto bolt (5).
Insert bolt (5) with installation aid (6) from below into the integral carrier (4).The installation aid (6) locates the bolt (5) in the integral carrier (4) and prevents it from dropping out.
The rack-and-pinion steering (2) is guided by the bolts (5). Alignment by moving it is therefore not possible.
