Since October 2010, new disk brakes with the designation "SL7" and "SM7" have been factory-fitted on the above-named models.
The new disk brakes "SL7" and "SM7" are a further development of the previous disk brake "SN7".
Although the operating principle is identical, individual components have been optimized or redesigned.
Comparison of the technical data shows the fundamental differences between the previous disk brake "SN7" and the new disk brakes "SL7" and "SM7".

When performing repair work on the new disk brakes "SL7" and "SM7", it is essential to observe the following points:
Weight-optimized brake caliper in two sizes
- Front, leading and trailing axles with disk brake "SM7" (larger brake calipers and linings compared to "SL7")
- Driven rear axles with disk brake "SL7" (smaller brake calipers and linings compared to "SM7")
New brake linings
- with new retainer concept "ProtectS": the new holddown spring (1) forms a non-detachable connection with the brake lining (2).
- with new patented design: new inner lining with partially integrated thrust pieces (3).
- with new lining format: different lining dimensions on the front axle and rear axle
New brake carrier (4)
- with flange reinforcement: corresponding to the lining format (arrow).
- with modified hole circle for attachment to the brake caliper and to the vehicle axle.
When maintenance and repair work is performed, brake linings, brake calipers and brake carriers or complete disk brakes can only be replaced with genuine Mercedes-Benz parts of the same disk brake design.
The reasons for this are the modifications to and redesign of the individual components for the new disk brakes "SL7" and "SM7".
The arrangement of the repair kits or the ordering availability of the individual replacement parts for the new disk brakes "SL7" and "SM7" remains unchanged compared with disk brake "SN7".
The repair work for the disk brakes "SL7" and "SM7" are identical to those of the previous disk brake "SN7". Differences only exist with regard to the size of the tools.
The necessary repair instructions will be amended and published in the WIS.
