General
To enable the adjustment damping to be adapted on a wheel-specific basis, several sensors permanently monitor the suspension status and the driving situation. The damping characteristic can be adapted to the road surface condition and driving style in the drive program selected by the driver.
Function requirements
Engine in operation
Wheel speed > 0 rpm
Function
The driving condition is defined through the following variables:
Wheel acceleration and damper speed
Vehicle body acceleration
Vehicle longitudinal and lateral acceleration
Steering angle
The following sensors record vehicle movement and vehicle body acceleration and they are read in directly by the adjustment damping control unit:
Front left/right body level sensors
Rear left/right body level sensors
The steering column tube module control unit provides information about the steering angle. The Electronic Stability Program (ESP®) control unit sends information about the vehicle's longitudinal and lateral acceleration. The ESP® control unit also sends information on the wheel speeds, brakes status and braking torque to the adjustment damping control unit. This information is used to calculate the vehicle speed and the expected chassis movement.
