Danger

Risk of fire/risk of explosion due to short circuit and escaping oxyhydrogen gas. Risk of (burn) injury caused by caustic burns to eyes, skin and mucous membranes from battery electrolyte/mist, short circuit and arcing. Risk of poisoning caused by swallowing battery electrolyte or absorption of lead through the skin or body orifices. Risk of death due to voltage U >= 30 V AC and U >= 60 V DC.

No fires, sparks, open flames, or smoking. Wear acid-resistant gloves, clothing, and glasses. Pour battery acid only into suitable and appropriately marked containers.

1

Open hood

When working on restraint systems, when welding and when working on lines without contact protection, the procedure for maintaining the on-board electrical system voltage must not be performed.
The electrical system or electronic components can otherwise be damaged.

2

Open cover of jump-start connection point (1) at engine compartment prefuse box in direction of arrow

3

Clip charger positive terminal (3) onto jump-start connection point of engine compartment prefuse box

WS54.00-P-0037B

Use a charger with at least 30 A charging current and 13.5 V charging voltage.
Otherwise the on-board electrical system battery can get partially discharged.

Do not reverse polarity.
Damage caused by short circuits will otherwise occur.

4

Clip charger ground terminal (4) onto ground terminal point (2)

5

Switch on charger

6

Switch off charger after completing test and diagnosis work on the vehicle

7

Disconnect ground terminal (4) of charger from ground support point (2)

8

Disconnect positive terminal (3) of charger from jump-start connection point of engine compartment prefuse box

9

Close cover for jump-start connection point (1)

Check cover for jump-start connection point (1) is correctly seated.

10

Close engine hood
