Remove cable tie (arrows) from hand brake cable (4) and expose connecting cable for brake pad wear indicator (9) and, if necessary, sensor cable up to parking brake relay unit

Unscrew brake hoses (14) from brake lines on body


Seal ends of line with stop plugs.
This helps to avoid any soiling.

 Installation: Bleed brake system.

Detach hydraulic line (13) from differential lock shift cylinder

Seal off line end and threaded connection with plugs.
This helps to avoid any soiling.

 Installation: Bleed hydraulic system of differential lock.

Pull rear-axle vent line (21) out of frame

 Modify when replacing rear axle bleed line (21).

Unscrew propeller shaft (19) from rear axle flange and tie to the side

Move telescopic jack under axle, support axle and secure axle against falling down using tensioning strap on jack

Unscrew nuts (22) on spring brackets (1), remove spring brackets (1) and spring plates (2)

 Installation: After a driving distance of 500 to 1000 km, check spring U-bolts (1) for the specified tightening torque and retighten if necessary.
Replace nuts (22).

Remove rear axle

 Model 904 with all-wheel drive:
Installation: Insert spring pad (3) between rear axle and spring.

Install in the reverse order

Check oil level on rear axle without changing oil, correct if necessary


