Use the following special tools:
Case
Hold-down tool
Assembly links
When carrying out work on the time case shaft and cylinder head, protect the component from falling small parts using a clean cloth. Parts which have fallen into the timing case recess or cylinder head, must be removed.
Engine damage could occur otherwise.
1 | Check that the hold-down tool (4) on the intake camshaft side on the right cylinder head is positioned properly. |
2 | Connect end link of the new timing chain (2) and old timing chain (1) with the assembly connecting link (3.1), the assembly shackle (3.2) and the assembly locking element (3.3). |
Ensure that assembly locking element (3.3) is seated correctly. |
3 | Remove the cloth from the timing case shaft and cylinder head. |
If you do not do this, it could be drawn into the timing case shaft when the engine starts to rotate. |
4 | Slowly turn engine at center bolt on crankshaft in direction of engine rotation, uniformly pull in new timing chain (2) and simultaneously guide out old timing chain (1). |
The basic position of the engine must be set up if there is skipping of the new timing chain (2) or old timing chain (1) on the camshaft sprocket or on the crankshaft gear . |
Turn engine until the end links of the new timing chain (2) can be connected to the right intake camshaft sprocket. |
5 | Cover the timing case shaft and cylinder head with a clean cloth. |
6 | Remove assembly locking element (3.3), assembly shackle (3.2) and assembly connecting link (3.1) and place old timing chain (1) to one side. |
Do not start the engine with the assembly locking element (3.3), the assembly shackle (3.2) and the assembly connecting link (3.1). |
