 	Remove/install
1	Remove slide rail (1) in cylinder head		AR05.10-S-8432A
2	Remove intake manifold (2)		AR09.20-S-1310A
3	Detach crankcase ventilation (5) lines on cylinder head
4	Detach exhaust system (4) at exhaust manifold	 Replace self-locking nuts	AR14.10-S-3915A
5	Detach coolant hose (3) on right cylinder head	7 mm socket hexagon on flexible shaft for hose clamps with worm drive
6	Position crankshaft to a 20° crank angle after ignition TDC of cylinder 1	Rotate engine at crankshaft	AR01.00-S-0120A
7	Lock camshafts using the retaining pin (16)		*111589031500
8	Mark camshaft sprockets (6) and (7) relative to timing chain (8) with color coding	 Installation: Place timing chain in such a way that the color codings on the timing chain and on the camshaft sprockets lie one above the other
9	Remove chain tensioner (9)	 Installation: Disassemble chain tensioner and assemble together again as described	AR05.10-S-7800A
10	Remove intake and exhaust camshaft sprocket (6) and (7)	 Installation: Replace camshaft sprocket bolts; only use once

		 Installation: Coat top slide rail pin (10) with sealant and knock into the cylinder head as far as the stop	*BR00.45-Z-1012-01A
12	Unscrew bolts (11) of cylinder head at timing case cover		*BA01.30-N-1003-01A
13	Loosen the cylinder head bolts (12) in stages and unscrew	 The cylinder head may only be removed on a cooled off engine. Slacken cylinder head bolts in the reverse order of the tightening procedure

		 Installation: Lubricate cylinder head bolts on thread and bolt head contact surfaces, insert and tighten in sequence of the tightening pattern

14	Check cylinder head bolts (12)		AR01.30-S-5800-03A

15	Lift cylinder head (13), remove	 Installation: Replace cylinder head gasket (14). Pay attention to dowel sleeves (15) for locating the cylinder head.
16	Clean separating surfaces, check for cracks, clean the tapped holes	Free of oil and water
17	Install in the reverse order
18	Inspecting cooling system for leaks	 Do not pressure-test cooling system until engine has reached operating temperature	AR20.00-S-1010A
		 The cylinder head gasket is not watertight until the engine has reached normal operating temperature and the gasket has swollen.
