1 | Set engine control and permanent brake operating lever to position "0" | ||
2 | Switch off ignition | ||
Danger! | Risk of injury caused by body parts being pinched or crushed as cab is tilted | Ensure that no one is within the tilting range of the cab as it is being tilted. Always tilt the cab all the way to the end position and secure with the safety strut. | |

4 | Remove left engine cover | ||
5 | Remove drain screw (5) on retarder fitting and drain coolant | Catch coolant with a suitable vessel. | |
Installation: Pour in coolant. | |||
6 | Remove coolant hoses (2) | Collect escaping coolant in a suitable vessel. | |
7 | Detach coolant hose of coolant line (3) at front from engine. | ||
8 | Remove holders for coolant lines (3, 4) and attach coolant lines (3, 4) firmly to longitudinal frame member | ||
9 | Drain transmission oil partially | ||

10 | Disconnect compressed-air line plug connector (1) | With compressed-air connection system "VOSS 230" | |
With "VOSS 232" or "SCHÄFER SDF" compressed air connection system | |||
11 | Detach Voith retarder (X97) connector | ||
12 | Detach propeller shaft from transmission and place to one side | On vehicles with power take-off, complete propeller shaft must be removed. | |
13 | Remove collar bolts (8) | Installation: Fit new collar bolts (8). Coat thread of new collar bolts (8) with thread locking compound. | |

14 | Unscrew collar nuts (7). | Installation: Fit new collar nuts (7). | |
| |||
15 | Detach retarder from transmission | Installation: Apply light coating of grease to new O-ring (10) and install free of twists. | |
Check threaded pin (9) on transmission for tight seating, replace if necessary. | |||
Coat thread of threaded pin (9) with thread locking compound and position retarder on transmission. | |||

16 | Install in the reverse order |
