When assessing safety after an accident, fire or problems with gas drive systems, all the following information relevant to the vehicle must be observed before starting work!
Otherwise the quality of the work carried out cannot be guaranteed.
| Check | ||
Danger | Risk of explosion due to escaping combustible gas or overheating of gas cylinders.Risk of injury caused by burns to skin and eyes. Risk of frostbite to body parts caused by escaping gas and by touching components near the valves when emptying gas cylinders. Risk of poisoning or suffocation caused by inhaling gas. | Remove any sources of ignition.
Topical note | General information on vehicles with high-voltage on-board electrical system and/or lithium-ion battery and/or gaseous-fuel drive system as well as personal protective equipment
1 | Check whether you have the required qualification for assessing the safety of gas drive systems (LGT, LPG, NGT or natural gas). | The required Mercedes Benz specific qualifications/instructions can also be obtained from Global Training.
If you do not have the required qualification,
| |||
do not carry out assessment of safety on the gas drive system (LGT, LPG, NGT or natural gas)!
If you do have the required qualification,
| |||
proceed with operation step 2.
2 | Before starting work, check gas drive system for acute gas loss.
3 | Perform special service, gas system test.
| Maintenance sheet for liquefied gas drive | MODEL 906 with CODE MY9 (Liquefied Gas Technology (LGT)) | |
| Maintenance sheet for natural gas drive | MODEL 906 with CODE MZ2 (Natural gas engine M271) | |
| SERVICE SHEET for special equipment | Model 902, 903, 904 with engine 111.984 with code MS7 (NGT (Natural Gas Technology) Sprinter) model 902, 903, 904 with engine 111.984 with code MZ7 (Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) drive) | |
| SERVICE SHEET for special equipment | Model 902, 903, 904 with engine 111.979 with code MS7 (NGT (Natural Gas Technology) Sprinter) | |
The gas system test must be performed whenever gas carrying components in the gas drive system are opened or after an accident/fire or thermal exposure > 85 °C / 185℉ at the gas cylinder, high-pressure gas carrying lines, connections and valves. |
