Programmable logic device (PLD) control unit controls all the functions of engine operation, engine monitoring and limp-home mode. This is located on the left hand side of the engine between the unit pumps and front engine support arm. This is having the cylinder synchronizing function which ensures smooth running performance of the engine.
The electronic control unit also has a self diagnostic system which constantly monitors most of the electronic control systems input circuits.
Tasks of the control unit programmable logic device (PLD)
Control unit programmable logic device controls various engine functions like fuel injection, torque reduction and speed control system based on the data received from various sensors.
Control unit programmable logic device detects flywheel pulses and determines. If cylinder producing adequate torque and balances the individual unit pump solenoid valve pulses to the preset limit balance output torque from all cylinders.
When the problem is detected, electronic control unit (ECU) turns on the check engine light to alert the driver that a fault exists in the system. At the same time the electronic control unit (ECU) registers a diagnostic code in its memory. So that the faulty circuit can be identified by a service technician at a later time to identify the exact reason of failure.
Control unit programmable logic device stores engine specific data.
Control unit programmable logic device controls the voltage supply of 5 V for the oil pressure/oil temperature and the boost pressure/charge air temperature combination sensors.
Control unit programmable logic device takes over all regulatory and control functions of control unit programmable logic device (PLD).
Detecting oil pressure and oil level for the instrument cluster.
Engine protection, starter actuation, system diagnosis and engine diagnosis.
The operator is notified of the fault via the instrument panel (may not be applicable for all the faults). All fault codes are logged and can be read using diagnostic equipment by service personnel to identify the exact reason of failure.
