A diagnosis program is integrated into the control module for testing the control module and the electric airbag system components. When a malfunction is recognized the SRS malfunction indicator lamp (A1e15) does not go out after 4 s. The malfunctions detected are stored and can be read out as a pulse display on the SRS malfunction indicator lamp (A1e15) or digitally with a pulse counter.

Note on pulse readout

The numbers from 1 to 10 appear on the display field of the pulse counter.

The number 1 means that no malfunctions are stored in the system. All other numbers are assigned to a certain range of malfunctions. If a number of malfunctions are present in the system, the malfunction with the lowest pulse count is output first.

If the LED U-Batt comes on after connecting, the pulse counter and the power supply for the pulse counter are okay.

If during the test the first number reappears after at least two or more pulse readouts (numbers) , all malfunctions have been read out.

Diagnosis with pulse readout

Connect pulse counter according to connection diagram.

The LED U-Batt in the display field must come on.

Switch on ignition.

Press start button for 2-4 s.

Readout 1 = no malfunctions in system.
