Secure propeller shaft in the area of the transmission (8) and of the propeller shaft center support bearing to prevent it from falling down

Remove retaining bracket from propeller shaft



Detach propeller shaft to rear axle from
transmission (8) or from transfer case and tie onto the side of the substructure

Remove propeller shaft to front axle from transfer case, and attach at side on floor assembly

Remove exhaust bracket (9)

 Installation: Check intermediate rubber layers for wear, replace if necessary.



Remove safety clamp (1), detach clutch line (2) and seal using a suitable stop plug

 Collect escaping brake fluid.

Detach shift cables (7) from transmission (8)

 Installation: Grease ball heads of shift cables (7).

With code (ZG1) Engageable all-wheel drive,
code (ZG2) Permanent all-wheel drive,
code (ZG3) All-wheel drive gear reduction or code (ZG4) Permanent all-wheel drive with gear reduction:
Only install ball head of upper shift cable (7) after installing the transfer case.

Detach speed sensor (B6 or B6/12) and tie to the substructure on one side

 Installation: Check O-ring (4) and replace if necessary.

Disconnect electrical connector (3)

With code (N05) PTO countershaft (2c) without flange or with code (N07) PTO countershaft (2b) with flange

Attach telescopic lifter with transmission plate to transmission (8)

Secure the transmission (8) using a tensioning strap on the transmission plate

Unscrew engine mount (5) from transmission (8)



Raise transmission (8) to relieve load on engine mount (5)

Support engine underneath between oil pan and front axle carrier using a suitable wooden block

Mark installation position of transmission crossmember (6)

 The mounting holes are arranged asymmetrically.

Remove transmission crossmember (6) together with engine mount (5)

 Installation: When removing, observe applied marking on the transmission crossmember (6).



Detach transmission (8) from engine, move out to the rear and lower

 Observe different shank lengths of bolts, mark installation locations if necessary.



Detach shift turnaround system from transmission housing

Install in the reverse order

Check brake fluid level in brake fluid reservoir, correct if necessary

Remove oil filler screw, check transmission oil level, correct if necessary and tighten oil filler screw

 Only if transmission oil has not been drained.

The automatic transmission fluid must be level with the filler hole.


