Danger! | Risk of injuries and damages when tilting and returning the engine hood to its position. | Make sure that the hood tilting and returning area is free of objects and people. Tilt the hood and lock it with the safety rod. Return the hood up to its correct locking in the work position.
1.1 | Tilt the engine hood. | Trucks w/ semi-advanced cabin.
Danger! | Risk of injuries and damages when tilting and returning the vehicle's cabin. | Make sure that the cabin tilting and returning area is free of objects and people. Tilt the cabin until the safety rod and lock it in the final position. Return the cabin up to its correct locking in the work position.
1.2 | Tilt the cabin. | Extended cabin trucks.
1.3 | Access for maintenance and repair work execution vary according to the body type/manufacturer. | Buses and special vehicles. Refer to body maker instructions.
Danger! | Risk of injuries and damages when starting the engine with the gearbox engaged. Risk of injuries when services are carried out while the engine heated and operating. | Make sure that the gearbox is in neutral position Make sure that the gearbox is in neutral position. Wear appropriate clothes and pay attention to the mobile and heated parts of the engine.
2 | Start the engine. | ||
3 | Check the turbocharger (1) for unusual noises or vibration. | Unusual noises or vibration can be caused by damages in the turbocharger rotors and due lack of tightness in the intake, charge air and exhaust system.
4 | Check the tightness of the tubes between the air filter and the turbocharger (1). Correct it, if necessary. | The penetration of strange materials damages the turbocharger rotors (1).
5 | Check the tightness of the charge air system tubes. Correct it, if necessary. | Leaks can be checked by touching and by putting soap foam on the tubes, connections and hoses.
6 | Check the tightness of the exhaust system. | Leaks are detected by the discoloration due to the leak area heating.
7 | Stop the engine. | Wait for the engine to cool.
8 | Remove the inlet hose from the turbocharger. | For gas engines 376.919.
For gas engines 376.922.
9 | Remove the output tubes from the turbocharger.
| Check | ||
10 | Check the axial and radial play of the rotor axle (2).
| |||
| |||
Axial play. | |||
Radial play. | |||
In the case of irregularities, replace the complete turbocharger.
11.1 | Check the condition of the relief valve (5), axle (4) at the throttle valve actuation (3) . | If the relief valve (5) is damaged or the throttle valve axle (4) is worn, replace the complete turbocharger.
In the turbochargers equipped with relief valve (Waste-gate) (5) the throttle valve (3) axle (4) adjustment regulation must never be altered.
| Install | ||
12 | Install the turbocharger intake tubes. | For gas engines 376.919.
For gas engines 376.922.
13 | Install the turbocharger output tubes. |
