Remove engine and install on assembly stand

Remove cylinder head cover

Remove cover on cylinder head

Remove screw/bolts (1) and screw/bolt (2)

 Set of flexible head wrenches

Unclip vacuum hose (3) from the retaining clamps

For engine 651.955/957.

Disconnect electrical connection on crankshaft position sensor (L5/10)

Remove electrical connector (4) from bracket and disconnect

Unscrew screw/bolts (5) and lay fuel lines down to side

Remove screw/bolts (7) and remove bracket for diesel particulate filter

11

Unscrew screw/bolts (6, 8, 9, 10) from timing case cover (11)

12

Press off timing case cover (11) with suitable tool


Carefully pry off timing case cover (11).
The cylinder head gasket can get damaged otherwise.

Remove radial shaft sealing ring from timing case cover (11)

Clean contact surfaces of the crankcase, oil pan, and timing case cover (11)

Do not use sharp-edged or pointed objects to clean.
The sealing surfaces can get damaged otherwise.

Position timing case cover (11) and tighten screw/bolts (6, 8, 9, 10) according to bolt plan.

 The cutouts in the timing case cover (11) must engage in the associated pilot bushing.

Position fuel lines and fasten with screw/bolts (5)

Connect diagnostic system, read out fault memory and delete if necessary and perform a sensor rotor adaptation


