Remove/install

 Danger!

Risk of accident caused by vehicle starting off by itself when engine is running. Risk of injury caused by contusions and burns during starting procedure or when working near the engine as it is running

Secure vehicle to prevent it from moving by itself.
Wear closed and snug-fitting work clothes.
Do not touch hot or rotating parts.

Bring engine to operating temperature (approx. 80°C)

 Only test compression pressure when engine is at normal operating temperature.

Switch off ignition and remove ignition key from ignition switch

Open engine hood

Remove air filter housing

Remove ignition coils

Remove spark plugs



Replace spark plugs

Connect compression recorder (01) and crank engine via starter

 Do not crank engine at ignition switch but use the contact switch on the compression recorder instead.

 In order to remove the combustion residue from the cylinders, crank the engine for about 5 seconds with the starter.



Checking

Insert compression recorder (01) in the spark plug holes in the first cylinder

Crank engine with contact switch of compression recorder (01) until increase in pressure is no longer indicated on compression recorder

 The cone of the compression recorder must shut off the tapped hole for the spark plug in an airproof manner during the process.

Carry out testing procedure in the cylinder order on the remaining cylinders in the same way

Compare measurements obtained with the specified pressures

Compression installation tolerance or new value

If the compression pressure obtained is below the minimum pressure, or if the permissible difference between individual cylinders is exceeded

Check cylinder leakage.
