| Remove/install | ||
Danger! | Risk of accident caused by vehicle starting off by itself when engine is running. Risk of injury caused by contusions and burns during starting procedure or when working near the engine as it is running | Secure vehicle to prevent it from moving by itself.
1 | Bring engine to operating temperature (approx. 80°C) | Only check cylinder for leaks when the engine is at normal operating temperature.
2 | Open engine hood | ||
Danger! | Risk of injury to skin and eyes caused by scalding from contact with hot coolant spray. Risk of poisoning caused by swallowing coolant. | Do not open cooling system unless coolant temperature is below 90°C. Open cap slowly and release the pressure. Do not pour coolant into beverage containers. Wear protective gloves, protective clothing and safety glasses.
3 | Release the cap (1) on coolant expansion reservoir (2) | 2-stage cap: Rotate cap half a revolution in an anti-clockwise direction and release pressure relief.
4 | Unscrew cap (1). | ||
5 | Unscrew oil filler cap (3)
6 | Remove spark plugs | ||
| Replace spark plugs | ||
7 | Position piston of the cylinder to be tested using TDC detector (03) to ignition TDC | Crank engine at crankshaft center bolt in direction of rotation of engine.
8 | Connect cylinder leakage testing unit (04)
| |||
| Checking | ||
9 | Pressurize cylinder with compressed air and read off pressure loss on cylinder leakage testing unit (04) | Cylinder leakage: permissible loss total indication
Cylinder leaktightness: permissible losses at valves and cylinder head gasket
Cylinder leaktightness: permissible losses at pistons and piston rings
If the crankshaft rotates:
Install retaining lock for crankshaft.
10 | Test other cylinders according to engine firing order | Firing order
11 | Install in the reverse order |
