1 | Bring engine to operating temperature (approx. 80 °C ) | ||
Danger! | Risk of injury to skin and eyes from scalding with hot coolant which splashes out. Risk of poisoning from swallowing coolant. | Do not open cooling system unless coolant temperature is below 90 °C. Open cap slowly and release the pressure. Do not pour coolant into beverage bottles. Wear protective gloves, protective clothing and eye protection. | |
2 | Open cooling system cap at the expansion reservoir | Turn 1/2 turn in anti-clockwise direction, release pressure, and then unscrew cooling system cap. | |
3 | Remove spark plugs (R4) | ||
| Replace spark plugs | ||
4 | Position piston of cylinder to be tested to ignition TDC | Rotate engine at crankshaft. The cams at the relevant cylinder are facing up at an angle, if necessary | |
Remove cylinder head cover | |||
5 | Block crankshaft with retaining lock | Block through the hole of the crankshaft position sensor. | |
6 | Connect cylinder leak tester (2) | Calibrate cylinder leak tester (2) and screw connection piece (3) into the spark plug hole. Refer to Operating Instructions. | |

7 | Pressurize cylinder with compressed air and read off pressure loss on cylinder leak tester (2) | Total indication of losses | |
Losses at valves and cylinder head gasket. | |||
Losses at pistons and piston rings. | |||
If high pressure loss exists, determine cause. | |||
