Carry out a confirmation test

 Actuate the retarder various times during the test to make the oil reach the operational temperature

Danger!

Risk of explosion! by oxyhydrogen gas. Risk of intoxication and burns due to ingestion of battery acid. Risk of injuries due to burns of eyes or skin due to contact with battery acid or when handling damaged acid-lead batteries.

It is not allowed to set fire, sparks, arc welding and smoking. Use protective gloves against the acid, and protective clothes and goggles. Place battery acid in appropriate recipients duly identified.

Disconnect the battery

 For this, unlock and remove the battery tray (please see the owner's manual).

Remove the bottom lining-panel of engine compartment

Danger!

Risk of injuries from contact with retarder heated up surface or burns by contact with hot oil on this surface. Risk of injuries on skin or eyes from retarder oil splashes under high pressure

Do not carry out any job unless the retarder is switched off. Use protective clothes and safety goggles when working on retarder¡s heated up surface.

Remove the regulating valve

Risk of injuries to the skin and eyes, due to burns caused by vapor or overheated coolant. Risk of poisoning due to coolant ingestion

Open the cooling system only when the temperature is below 90 °C. Open the cap slowly and let the excessive pressure out. Coolant should not be kept in beverage bottles. Use gloves, appropriate clothes and protective glasses.

Remove the coolant hose from the heat exchanger (3)

Remove the coolant connection(1) from the heat exchanger (3)

Install: The seals of the coolant connection (1) must be replaced.



Fill the retarder with oil.

Install:In the version that has the integrated plastic sealing ring, the oil drain bolt has to be replaced if the plastic seal ring is damaged. Replace the copper made sealing ring in the version that has a copper made sealing ring.



In the models with transmission 714.120/124/140/144 with Voith R115 (integral) retarder code B10.

Remove the screws (2).

Installation: If the bolts have washers, they must be replaced. In the version in which the bolts have flange, they must be replaced.

Remove the O-rings (4)

Installation: Replace the O-rings (4) and lubricate them with petroleum jelly.

Carry out a confirmation test

Actuate the retarder at least three times in the beginning of the trip to ensure its inner lubrication.
