O | 025677 | Check charge air cooler for leaks (charge air cooler removed) TI-no.:09.41M009, Acc. no.: 50 301 ZZ |
Charge air coolers which when checked in the plant do not exhibit any function impairment are being replaced.
The most frequent reason for complaint is oil contamination in the corners of the charge air cooler. The cause of this contamination is microfissures which can occur due to frequent and rapid temperature change.
Oil mist escapes through these microfissures. Caused by the high rate of air flow at the charge air cooler dirt surfaces containing oil but which are fed by a negligibly small oil quantity form on the radiator core after prolonged use.
The function of the charge air cooler and engine output are not influenced by this. This contamination can be neglected when the charge air cooler is cleaned regularly as per the maintenance procedures.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Whether a charge air cooler can be designated as leaky should not be evaluated by the degree of oil contamination. Only a pressure loss test is a reliable index.
Carrying out and evaluation of the pressure loss test is described in the work instructions TI09.41M009A.
If a charge air cooler is replaced the cooler which has been removed should be sent back in the original packaging of the new cooler. This is the only way to avoid transport damage.
The test sheet in the attachment of the work instructions TI09.41M009A is likewise to be sent at the same time completely filled in. If a charge air cooler is replaced as consequential damage, e.g. of turbocharger damage, a note of this is to be made on the test sheet.
Inform the customer about the facts and in this context that the costs for removal and testing the charge air cooler can only be accepted if the pressure loss is above the specified limit value.

Warranty and goodwill processing:
No special cost settlement ensues. The system decision applies to advance goodwill inquiries.
Charge air coolers sent back to QSU-LS for warranty or goodwill if possible must be packed in the original packaging so that no damage can occur during the return transport.
Accessory parts should be enclosed analog to the scope of supply. In addition the test sheet must be enclosed completely filled in.
Charge air coolers not sent back in the original packaging and show shipping damage or on which the completely filled-in test sheet is missing will not be recognized and will be redebited.
