Signal assignment engine 104

1 Crank angle
2 Cylinder ignition TDC
3 Signal of crankshaft position sensor (L5)
4 Signal of camshaft Hall sensor (B6/1)
5 TNA engine speed signal

When the crankshaft rotates, an alternating voltage is generated in the crankshaft position sensor by the teeth of the driven plate. In this case, each tooth generates an alternating voltage signal.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

No voltage is generated as a result of the gap caused by two missing teeth. The engine control module detects the TDC position of cylinders 1 and 6 with the 2nd negative slope after the gap.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

If the signal from the camshaft Hall sensor is at 0 V ("low") at this moment, the engine control module processes this for recognizing ignition TDC of cylinder 1.

Synchronization of the fuel injection and firing order is further processed by the engine control module for actuating the ignition coils and the fuel injectors. In addition, it is required for the knock sensor system and for fuel shutoff at individual cylinders.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

If no signal is supplied by the camshaft Hall sensor, ignition TDC of cylinder 1 is determined randomly by the engine control module. Engines 111, 104 start about 1 second later.
