Remove

 Danger !

Risk of death caused by vehicle slipping or toppling off of the lifting platform.

Align vehicle between vehicle lift columns and position the four support plates at the vehicle lift support points specified by the vehicle manufacturer.

Detach both rear axle shafts (8) at the rear axle differential (6)

Detach propeller shaft (2) from joint flange (4)

 Tie the propeller shaft (2) back using a piece of welding wire.

Drain oil from rear axle center assembly (6)

 After draining, screw in the oil drain screw again and tighten.

Spin join flange (4) by hand and check axial play of bearing


The bearing must be free of play. Otherwise, damage to the bearing and the gear set in the rear axle differential (6) will be unavoidable.

If play occurs or also in the event of abrasion (shavings) in the drained oil, replace rear axle differential:



Measure and note down friction torque at drive pinion flange

 Measure friction value at approx. 50 1 rpm. A cordless screwdriver can be used for the measurement.

Attach joint flange (4) to drive pinion

Replace joint flange (4) and coat the bearing surface of the radial sealing ring with hypoid gear oil.

 If after initial torque of the collar nut (3) there is still play in the bearing of the drive pinion or if the friction torque after the adjustment is not 0.1 to 0.3 Nm above the value noted previously, the rear axle differential (6) must be replaced.
