 Warning

Do not open cooling system unless coolant temperature is below 90 °C. Open cap slowly and release the pressure. Do not pour coolant into beverage containers.

Remove poly-V belt (1)

Remove oxygen sensor downstream of catalytic converter (G3/1)

Lower vehicle

Disconnect ground line from battery

Remove engine air intake duct upstream of air filter and air filter housing

Disconnect electrical connection for oxygen sensor upstream of catalytic converter (G3/2)

Remove upper catalytic converter bracket (3)

Remove heat shield (4b) above ATL

Cover alternator


Cover alternator.
Otherwise coolant can find its way into the alternator and leads to damage.

Remove oil return line of the ATL (5) and seal openings with suitable stop plugs

 Installation: Replace seal.

 Record plug

Detach coolant line (6) from coolant pump (13) to coolant thermostat at coolant pump (13)

Detach coolant line (7) on crankcase; to do this remove screw/bolt (7a)

Remove coolant hose between coolant pump (13) and cooler

Detach coolant return line (8) and coolant feed pipe (9) on ATL

20

Remove oil line feed line (10) for ATL

 Seal openings using  stop plugs.

 Installation: Replace seal.

 Record plug

Remove nut (16) and screw/bolt (21) and detach support (15), ATL to crankcase

 Installation: Replace nut (16) on support (15).

 Bolt, turbocharger support brace to crankcase

Remove RH charge air hose upstream of charge air cooler

Remove screw/bolts (18) and unfasten guide tube (17)

 Bolt, guide tube for oil dipstick to cylinder head cover

Detach vacuum line (11) from adjustment box for coolant pump (13)

Detach bracket (20) for coolant line (14) from coolant pump (13) and from cylinder head and timing case; remove screw/bolts (14a, 14b, 14c) to do this

Detach coolant hose (19) from coolant pump (13) at coolant line (14)

When replacing the coolant pump (13).

Detach coolant inlet fitting (12) from coolant pump (13)

When replacing the coolant pump (13).

 Bolt, feed pipe to coolant pump

Remove screw/bolts and remove coolant pump (13) to the LH side of vehicle

 Screw, coolant pump to timing case/crankcase/oil pan

Install in the reverse order

Check cooling system for leaktightness

Secure vehicle to prevent it from starting off by itself. Wear closed and snug-fitting work clothes. Do not touch hot or rotating parts.
