Remove

Remove left and right front section of the fender liner in front fender

Remove both covers of the toothed belt

Remove retaining plate (1)

Remove retaining lock for starter ring gear

Remove screw plug (2)

Turn engine up to shortly before TDC (TDC)

 To do this provide the old center bolt of the belt pulley with a spacer and screw it in. Screw engine onto the crankshaft in direction of engine rotation until the bore for the locking pin stands in the camshaft sprocket (3) approximately opposite the bore in cylinder head.

Install locking pin for the crankshaft

 Drift

Turn engine to top dead center position


Turn engine carefully up to touching the crankshaft.
Damage may occur otherwise.



Check

Check position of camshaft

 To do this install locking pin for the camshaft sprocket (3).

Fix gear (4) for high-pressure pump

 To do this insert suitable tool in locking bore (7).

Check position of the crankshaft

 The correct position of the crankshaft can be recognized by the fact that the marking (punch mark) on the crankshaft gear (5) is located vertically downwards and the feather key on the crankshaft points vertically upwards.

If the markings do not match



Remove toothed belt.

Remove fixing of the gear (4) of the high-pressure pump
