| Remove/install | ||
1 | Open engine hood | Only close engine hood after carrying out a leaktightness check.
2 | Remove air filter housing
3 | Remove front covers from cylinder heads | Right front cover
Left front cover | |||
4 | Remove cover from centrifuge
5 | Remove centrifuge | ||
6 | Turn engine at crankshaft in the direction of engine rotation to 40° after ignition TDC and check position of camshafts
7 | Lock gear backlash compensation of the camshaft adjuster (9) at the right exhaust camshaft | The tooth flanks are held against each other by spring pressure and should not be skewed, otherwise the camshaft adjuster will be irreparably damaged.
8 | Loosen center valve (5) on right exhaust camshaft | Observe loosening direction. When releasing center valve counterhold the exhaust camshafts at the rear using a suitable tool. Do not unscrew the center valve.
| |||
9 | Remove right cylinder head cover
10 | Remove center valve (5) of right exhaust camshaft and remove pulse wheel (7) | Check on pulse wheel whether dowel pin (15) or pin has been sheared off. Remove sheared pins or dowel pins from the camshaft adjuster (9).
Installation: Always replace the pulse wheel. When tightening the center valve, there is a risk of shearing off the dowel pin and pin on the pulse wheel. Before assembling, oil the center valve at the contact surface with the pulse wheel.
Installation: Align dowel pin on the pulse wheel with the bore (14) in the camshaft adjuster.
11 | Pull camshaft adjuster (9) to the front from the RH exhaust camshaft while counterholding the exhaust camshaft at the rear using a suitable tool | Installation: Align dowel pin (16) in the camshaft adjuster with bore (17) in the exhaust camshaft.
12 | Remove auxiliary bearing cap (11) on the right exhaust camshaft and take out the exhaust camshaft
13 | Remove chain tensioner | M241.5
M221.5 | |||
Installation: Install new chain tensioner with thread of M221.5. The previously installed chain tensioner must not be reinstalled because during removal, its pressure pin is pressed into the end position. The thrust pin latch prevents this return stroke. This would overstretch the timing chain on reinstalling.
14 | Remove tensioning rail bolt | Installation: When installing, coat the tensioning rail bolt with sealing compound.
