Remove/install

Open engine hood

Unclip front engine cover

See Remove air filter housing.

Remove engine air intake duct from RH air filter

Remove right air shutoff valve (3)

Remove bolts (1) and lay bracket (2) with air pump switchover valve (Y32) to the side

Do not detach lines at the air pump switchover valve (Y32).

Remove hose (6)

Detach connector on solenoids for inlet and exhaust camshaft, on the right (Y49/5, Y49/7)

Detach connector on Hall sensors for inlet and exhaust camshaft, on the right (B6/5, B6/7)

Remove bolts (4, 7 pieces) and front cover (5) from cylinder head

Installation: Observe notes on sealant path:

Applying sealing compound to the front cover

Clean

Clean the sealing surfaces on front cover (5) and cylinder head

Do not use any sharp-edged tools or abrasive paper as this will damage the sealing surfaces.

Install in the reverse order

Secure vehicle to prevent it from moving by itself.
Wear closed and snug-fitting work clothes.
Do not touch hot or rotating parts.
