Remove the cylinder head cover (1).

Remove heat shield from exhaust gas turbocharger.

 Bolt, heat shield to bracket

Remove profile clamp between turbocharger and CAT and place CAT to one side.

 Installation: Check profile clamp and replace if necessary.

Remove coolant lines from exhaust gas turbocharger and place it to one side.

 Installation: Install new sealing rings.

Remove oil feed line from turbocharger and place to one side.

 Installation: Replace sealing ring.

Remove oil return line from the exhaust gas turbocharger on crankcase.

Remove the slide rail pins (8a, 8b) for clamping and slide rail.

 Installation: The thread of the slide rail pins (8a, 8b) must point outwards.

Remove intake camshaft (2a) and exhaust camshaft (2c).

Remove spark plugs.



Always remove spark plug.
Otherwise, the spark plugs will be damaged by laying the cylinder head (7) onto a flat surface.

Disconnect electrical connector on coolant temperature sensor.

Unfasten cylinder head bolts (6) against the tightening procedure.

Tightening procedure for cylinder head bolts

 Installation: Replace cylinder head bolts (6).

 To avoid stresses in cylinder head (7), only loosen the cylinder head bolts (6) when the engine has cooled off.

 Observe tightening procedure.

Remove cylinder head (7) with exhaust gas turbocharger, exhaust manifold, engine suspension lugs and charge air distributor upwards.

Remove compensating elements (4).

If necessary.

Clean

Clean the sealing surfaces on cylinder head (7) and crankcase (11).

Do not use any sharp-edged tools or abrasive paper.
The sealing surfaces can get damaged otherwise.

Blow out threaded holes for cylinder head bolts (6) in crankcase (11) with compressed air, and clean off the engine oil and the coolant.



Check

Check sealing surfaces on cylinder head (1), timing case cover and crankcase for cracks and unevenness.


The cylinder head (7) and crankcase (11) must not be reworked (surface grinding).
The permissible machining tolerances will be exceeded otherwise.

 In the event of any complaint, replace cylinder head (7), timing case cover or crankcase (11).

 Any distortion of the cylinder head (7) in the longitudinal or transverse direction will be balanced out again during reassembly when the cylinder head bolts (6) are tightened.

Install in the reverse order.

Check basic position for the exhaust camshaft (2a) and intake camshaft (2e).

Read out fault memory with vehicle diagnosis system and delete if necessary.



Check engine oil level, correct if necessary.



Secure vehicle to prevent it from starting off by itself. Wear closed and snug-fitting work clothes. Do not touch hot or rotating parts.

Carry out engine test run, checking the engine for leaktightness to engine oil and coolant.
