Remove/install

Remove camshaft positioner of the exhaust camshaft (3a) and camshaft positioner of the intake camshaft (3c).

Remove holding device of the exhaust camshaft (2a) and intake camshaft (2e).

Remove hold-down tool of the exhaust camshaft (2a) and intake camshaft (2e).

 Installation:
Engine 270 in model 117, 156, 176, 242, 246.2
with code A14 (Camtronic)
Install hold-down tool again in the same position (mark if necessary).
The exhaust camshaft (2a) and intake camshaft (2e) or the cylinder head (7) will be damaged otherwise.

Remove intake camshaft (2e).

General information on checking camshafts and bearing points of camshafts

 Installation:
Lubricate compensating elements and camshaft bearing points. Cams of the intake camshaft (2e) must point upward at an angle after insertion of the intake camshaft (2e) at cylinder 1.
There is otherwise risk of breakage of the intake camshaft (2e) and exhaust camshaft (2a).

Installation: Ensure that the intake camshaft (2e) is installed in the full stroke position (picture). The position full stroke can be recognized from the 6.5 mm width gap (11) between the carrier shaft (10) and the from can piece (12a). There should be no gap (arrow) between the camshaft piece at the rear (12b) and the high-pressure pump drive cams (13). Adjust the camshaft piece at the front (12a) or the camshaft piece at the rear (12b) by hand if necessary.

Remove exhaust camshaft (2a).

 Installation:
Oil compensating elements, vacuum pump drive and camshaft bearing points. The cams on the exhaust camshaft (2) must be pointing upward at an angle after inserting exhaust camshaft (2a) at cylinder 1.

Check the diameters of the camshaft journals for wear and replace intake camshaft (2e) or exhaust camshaft (2a) if necessary.
