Automatic transmission - oil and filter change

Risk of accident caused by vehicle starting off by itself when engine is running. Risk of injury caused by contusions and burns during starting procedure or when working near the engine as it is running

Secure vehicle to prevent it from moving by itself.
Wear closed and snug-fitting work clothes.
Do not touch hot or rotating parts.

Clean oil drain screw for oil pan (1), oil drain screw for oil cooler (5) and bleed screw on the top side of the oil cooler

Always ensure the utmost cleanliness when working on the automatic transmission.

Remove oil drain screw of oil pan (1) and oil drain screw of oil cooler (5)

 Drain oil when warm.

Release bleed screw on upper side of oil cooler

Screw in oil drain screw of oil pan (1) and oil drain screw of oil cooler (5)

 Install new sealing rings.



Tighten bleed screw on top side of oil cooler



Clean union nut of oil filler pipe (2)

Unscrew oil filler pipe

Take off oil pan

 Caution when removing the oil pan, it still contains a larger residual oil quantity.

Clean oil pan carefully

Remove oil filter (3) and oil intake tube (4)

Install oil intake tube (4) and new oil filter (3)

 Replace sealing ring on oil intake tube (4) and moisten with oil.



Install oil pan

 Install new gasket.

 First screw in screws manually and then tighten crosswise uniformly from center.



Screw on oil filler pipe



Replace external filter (6)

Filling

Loosen transmission oil dipstick (7) and pull out of the transmission oil filler pipe

Insert funnel into the opening of the transmission oil filler pipe



Pour in the specified quantity of transmission oil



Insert transmission oil dipstick in the transmission oil filler pipe and twist

 Wipe off the transmission oil dipstick using a fluff-free rag (preferably leather).



Checking

Start engine

Apply service brake

 Shift through all selector lever positions.

 Leave selector lever engaged at each position for a few seconds. Afterwards shift transmission into position "P" again.

Check transmission oil level and correct if necessary

 Cold transmission (20 °C to 30 °C):
The automatic transmission fluid must be within the cold measuring range (B).

Transmission at operating temperature

(70 °C to 90 °C):
The automatic transmission fluid must be within the hot measuring range (A).

Determinate for the correct transmission oil level, which guarantees troublefree operation of the transmission, is the hot measuring range (A) on a transmission at operating temperature (70 °C to 90 °C).

It is essential to drain excess transmission oil or extract it using a handpump. When suctioning off attention should be paid to extreme cleanliness of the hose and pump, otherwise malfunctions may occur.



Turn off engine

Check oil pan, exterior filter (6) and oil cooler for leaktightness
