ENGINE 642.9 in MODEL 221.1 as of Model Year 09 /Modification Year 08
General function requirements
Circuit 50 ON
Gear selector lever position "P" or "N"
Starter control, general
The engine is started using the function starter control.
Function sequence
The CDI control unit (N3/9) receives the gear selector switch position "P" or "N" message from the steering column tube module (N80) over the chassis CAN. The CDI control unit also receives the "tml. 50 ON" message from the EIS control unit (N73) over the chassis CAN.
The CDI control unit actuates the starter (M1) through the terminal 50 starter relay (N10/1kH) integrated in the front SAM control unit with fuse and relay module (N10/1).
The CDI control unit detects engine running via the crankshaft Hall sensor (B70) and via the "Circuit 61 ON" message and the end of the starting procedure via the "Circuit 50 OFF" message. The CDI control unit reacts by interrupting actuation of the starter.
If there is a repeat start after the end of starting procedure, a cutoff period of about 1.5 to 3 s is applied. This occurs so that the rotating pinion of the starter is prevented from meshing with the toothing on the engine clutch plate (ring gear protection).
