 Warning

Risk of injury to skin and eyes suffering scalding from contact with hot coolantspray. Risk of poisoning from swallowing coolant.

Do not open cooling system unless coolant temperature is below 90 °C. Open cap slowly and release the pressure. Do not pour coolant into beverage containers.
Wear protective gloves, protective clothing and safety glasses.

Remove/install

Open engine hood and move to vertical position

Detach cap of coolant expansion reservoir and relieve pressure in coolant circuit

Pinch off coolant hose (10) next to coolant circulation pump (M13) using pinch-off pliers (3)

Remove front section of fender liner in right fender at front

Clamp off coolant hoses (4) using pinch-off pliers (3)

Disconnect coolant hoses (4, 10) at STH heater unit (A6)

Disconnect coolant hose (12) at STH switchover valve (A6y1)

Disconnect exhaust line (9) from STH heater unit (A6)

Remove electrical connector (11) at STH switchover valve (A6y1)

Detach fuel hose (1) from fuel line (2)

Unclip fuel line (2) from bracket (8)

Unscrew nuts (6)

 Nut, solenoid valve to bracket

Remove screws/bolts (5)

 Bolt for heater bracket on body

Disconnect electrical connector (13) from STH heater unit (A6)

Remove bolts (14)

 Bolt, bracket to heater

Slightly push bracket (7) to one side and pull STH heater unit (A6) downward out of bracket (15)

Remove coolant hose (12) from STH heater unit (A6)

Remove fuel hose (16) with fuel line (2) from STH heater unit (A6)

Remove bolt (17) and unhook retaining clamp (18)

Remove intake muffler (19) from STH heater unit (A6)

Screw bolts (14), to precut the threads, into the existing bores at the STH heater unit (A6) and remove again

Only when a new STH heater unit (A6) is installed.

Install in the reverse order

Pour in coolant and bleed cooling system

Do not operate stationary heater, auxiliary heater or engine with heater booster in closed rooms or when refueling. Allow heater unit to cool down after operation and wear protective gloves.

Perform initial startup of stationary heater with diagnostic system



 If the STH heater unit (A6) switches off automatically before reaching its operating temperature and cannot be restarted again a malfunction interlock is present. This fault interlock can be revoked using the diagnostic system.
