Danger ! | Risk of injury to skin and eyes suffering scalding from contact with hot coolantspray. Risk of poisoning from swallowing coolant. | Do not open cooling system unless coolant temperature is below 90 °C. Open cap slowly and release the pressure. Do not pour coolant into beverage containers.

| Install | ||
| Drain off coolant | ||
| |||
.1 | Remove coolant drain fitting (11) from crankcase and replace with connection fitting (12) | Engine 471.9, 473.9 in model 800.310with hydrodynamic retarder
Coolant drain fitting to crankcase
.2 | Remove coolant drain fitting (11) from coil/coolant module and replace with connection fitting (12) | Engine 470.9 in model 800.310with hydrodynamic retarder
Coolant drain fitting to oil/coolant module
| Mount front bracket (23) and tighten bolts slightly by hand
| Mount rear bracket (2) and tighten bolts slightly by hand
| Mount coolant filter (1) on lower attachment points of front bracket (23) and rear bracket (2) and tighten bolts slightly by hand
| Tighten bolts on front brackets (23) and rear bracket (2)
| Tighten three bolts on coolant filter (1) | Use screw/bolts M8x110.
| Mount bracket (20) | ||
| Mount coolant line (22) with clamp and shim (21) onto bracket (20) | Use M8x25 bolt.
| Mount coolant line (22) with clamp onto coolant filter (1) | Use M8x120 bolt.
| Mount connection fitting (3) onto coolant filter (1) | Connection fitting to coolant filter
| Cut feed hose (8) to length and mount connectors with clamps
| Fit feed hose (8) onto connection fitting (12) of crankcase or oil/coolant module
| Fit feed hose (8) onto inner connection fitting (3) for coolant filter (1)
| Fit chafe protection (6) in area of front bracket (23)
| Fit chafe protection (10) in area of oil suction pipe and the bracket for the soundproofing
| Fit chafe protection (9) in area of engine supporting frame
| Fix feed hose (8) with bracket (7) into place
| Cut return hose (5) to length and mount connector with clamp
| Mount return hose (5) with clamp onto coolant line (22) and fit onto coolant filter (1)
| Disconnect coolant hose (15) and shorten branch-off length (16) accordingly
| Install branch off (16) with clamps
| Shorten return hose (14) and mount with clamp onto branch off (16)
| Fix return hose (14) with clamp in place
| Mount check valve (18) with clamp onto return hose (14) | Note flow direction. The coolant flows from the coolant filter (1) to the branch off (16).
| Shorten return hose (19) and mount with clamps onto the check valve (18) and coolant line (22)
| Mount chafe protection (17) onto return hoses (14, 19)
| Route return hose (14) with chafe protection (24) and chafe protection (25) onto exhaust gas recirculation line | Only if the return hose (14) with alternative routing (A) or with alternative routing (B) was routed.
| Fill in coolant | ||

Danger ! | Risk of accident from vehicle starting off by itself when engine running. Risk of injury (bruises and burns) resulting from working on the engine while it is being started or when it is running. | Secure vehicle to prevent it from starting off by itself. Wear closed and snug-fitting work clothes. Do not touch hot or rotating parts.
| Run engine test and check coolant filter (1) and all newly routed hoses for leaktightness | Visual inspection. |
