Modification notes
The frame of the M-class manufactured from high-strength, heat-treated steel, is composed of enclosed, torsionally-resistant box sections. This produces a stable, twist-proof frame construction, which, nevertheless, does involve paying particular attention to certain precautionary measures when carrying out accident repairs.
It is prohibited to heat the frame at all to facilitate straightening operations. Heatening may detrimentally affect the strength of the frame, alter the crash properties of the vehicle and result in unintentional stresses in the frame.
Refer to the WIS for approved straightening operations on the frame and the related welding methods, and adhere to these instructions.
In the event that the frame cannot be repaired using traditional hydraulic tools in combination with a straightening rig, the frame should then be replaced.
